For the last twenty years, Dr Peter Hunt has been providing sophisticated modern dental therapy in Center City Philadelphia. As Philadelphia Magazine once put it “he provides Rolls Royce dentistry at Volkswagen prices”. Over the last year he has completely re-modeled his office to provide a still more personal but intensive range of modern dental services.

Dr Hunt is a fourth generation dentist who trained originally in Great Britain at Guy’s Hospital Dental School in the University of London. After Oral Surgery Residencies at Guy’s Hospital and the Maxillo-Facial Unit at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead he returned to the Eastman Dental Center in London where he received his Master’s Degree in Advanced Restorative Dentistry.

He came to the United States in 1973 when he was awarded the first Annenberg fellowship by the Ambassador to Great Britain, Walter Annenberg. At the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental Medicine he obtained specialty certificates in both Periodontics and Periodontal Prosthesis. Following his graduate training, he taught dentistry for a year in Cape Town, South Africa, before returning to the University of Pennsylvania where he became the Director of Continuing Dental Education. In 1981 he opened his private practice in Center City Philadelphia.

At the same time as being in private practice he has always taught dentistry, first at the University of Pennsylvania, where he rose to be Clinical Professor of Periodontics. More recently, he commuted to Fort Lauderdale for three days a week where he was Professor of Restorative Dentistry at Nova SouthEastern University’s College of Dentistry. He was the Post-Graduate Director, Director of Periodontal Prosthesis and Implant Dentistry and co-ordinated the Implant, Dental Materials and Occlusion programs for pre-doctoral students.

Facilities/Team

Dr Hunt most commonly treats adult patients with advanced breakdown of the teeth or their supporting structures. To make the process more efficient, more cost effective and relaxing, over the last year Dr Hunt has completely remodeled his Center City Philadelphia office. The new arrangement now enables him to provide the ultimate in advanced level, multi-disciplinary therapy. The most obvious change has been the re-configuration of his treatment space. Two treatment rooms were broken into one. The enlarged space allows much more room for equipment and makes it easier and more comfortable for involved procedures. In particular, it facilitates implant procedures because the extra counter space allows everything to be readily at hand.

His office is now completely digital. Digital Photographs of any situation can be taken and immediately bought up on a computer screen. This helps greatly in explaining complex treatment plans. For Digital Radiographs there are two wonderful new pieces of equipment. The first is a digital Panoramic film device. This takes a “full head” shot and shows everything in great detail. By the time you sit down, the image is on the screen. The most common comment from patients is “wow”. There is also an intra-oral imaging device. Again, the images come up instantaneously. These digital imaging devices have far less radiation exposure than conventional systems

The design of the facility allows full service multi-disciplinary treatment plans to be carried out quickly and efficiently. Dr Hunt can move seamlessly from implant and periodontal procedures to advanced restorative dentistry. Almost all restorations employ the most advanced aesthetic dental materials. No amalgam restorations are placed.
